Urso is prescribed for patients who are not in need of a surgical procedure to remove the gall bladder or for patients who are not advised to undergo surgery due to other medical problems.
Urso is prescribed for patients who are on weight loss programs for the prevention of gall stone formation.
Urso is prescribed for patients who are suffering from gallstones.
Urso is prescribed for the treatment of gallstone diseases.
Urso is prescribed to dissolve cholesterol gallstones that do not contain calcium and are less than 2 cm in diameter.
Urso is prescribed to patients who have small gallstones or to overweight patients
Urso is prescribed to prevent cholesterol gallstones from forming during rapid loss of weight.
Urso is prescribed to treat primary biliary cirrhosis.
Urso must be used for one or more years, and 50% of patients who have successful dissolution of their gallstones will have the gallstones return within five years. The likelihood of having successful dissolution of gallstones is low if partial dissolution is not seen within 12 months of starting treatment.
Urso only works for the for gallstones that are made of cholesterol and which are small and floating.
It does not dissolve gallstones that are composed of pigment rather than cholesterol.

The recommended dose for dissolving gallstones in adults is 8-10 milligrams/kg/day split into 2 or 3 doses. For treating primary biliary cirrhosis, the recommended dose is 13-15 milligrams/kg/day split into 4 doses.
